Sponsored by the City and County of Broomfield, Broomfield Open Space Foundation, and Butterfly Pavilion

Open spaces are full of life unique to Colorado and in order for that life to thrive, we need to remove troublemakers. Noxious weeds are plants that don’t play nice with other plants by pushing the desirable native plants out of the landscape. This reduces diversity in the spaces noxious weeds occupy. Noxious weeds produce hundreds of seeds that could last up to 100 years in the soil! Broomfield Commons Open Space has noxious weeds that must be escorted out to let the natives move in.

On August 19th from 8-12 pm, we invite you to join us in the battle against Musk Thistle and Common Mullein along the northernmost border of Broomfield Commons Open Space. We will meet in the North lot of Paul Derda Recreation Center (13201 Lowell Blvd). Broomfield City and County staff will be there, along with Broomfield Open Space Foundation Board Members, some Butterfly Pavilion RMVs, and other open space champions from the community.

All are welcome to come and help for as long as they like. Wear long sleeves, long pants, closed-toe shoes, sunhats, and sunscreen. Bring gloves, water, and feel free to bring loppers, hand clippers, and shovels. We will provide some tools and trash bags as well.

Your sweat equity will pay off for nature leaving a positive mark on Broomfield Commons Open Space!
